While Sherlock Holmes dominates Doyle’s reputation, he was also a skilled writer of horror and adventure short fiction. This listing collects individually published stories and novellas, including both Holmes tales released as standalone editions and non-Holmes fiction. Lot No. 249, set at Oxford University, tells the story of a student who reanimates an Egyptian mummy, and it influenced decades of mummy fiction that followed.
The Horror of the Heights imagines dangerous life forms living in the upper atmosphere, discovered by a doomed aviator. The Ring of Thoth is another Egyptian-themed tale about an ancient man who has lived for centuries. Several Holmes stories appear here in standalone editions, including The Adventure of the Cardboard Box and The Adventure of the Final Problem. The range of subjects, from medical horror (The Case of Lady Sannox) to boxing fiction (The Croxley Master) to supernatural terror (John Barrington Cowles), shows how much Doyle wrote beyond his most famous character.
