The Aristotle Socarides series follows “Soc” Socarides, a diver and commercial fisherman who works as a private investigator on Cape Cod. Starting with Cool Blue Tomb in 1991, which won the Shamus Award for Best Paperback Original, the series puts a maritime twist on the classic PI formula.
Kemprecos draws on his knowledge of Cape Cod and the New England coast to create mysteries that feel rooted in a specific place and culture. The series has grown to nine books, with the most recent, The God in the Sea, published in 2024. Soc is a blue-collar investigator whose diving skills give him access to crime scenes that most detectives can’t reach.
