Anthony Marra has contributed short fiction to several notable anthologies over the years. His work first appeared in xo Orpheus in 2013, the same year his debut novel A Constellation of Vital Phenomena was published. Marra went on to appear in McSweeney’s #49 in 2017 and both volumes of the Simpsonistas anthology series in 2018 and 2019.
These anthology appearances sit alongside a broader body of short fiction work. Marra is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and a former Stegner Fellow at Stanford, and his shorter pieces carry the same attention to character and place that defines his novels. His writing often returns to themes of displacement, memory, and the ways people survive under difficult circumstances.
