Annihilators: Earthfall is a Marvel Comics miniseries written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, collected in a 2012 trade paperback. It follows the Annihilators, a cosmic super-team assembled from heavy-hitters including Ronan the Accuser, Beta Ray Bill, and Quasar, as they travel to Earth in pursuit of the Dire Wraiths, shape-shifting alien invaders from Marvel’s Rom: Spaceknight continuity.
The series was the second Annihilators miniseries, following the original which established the team. Earthfall brought the cosmic characters into contact with Earth-based heroes and villains, a crossover with familiar Marvel settings. Like the original Annihilators series, the Earthfall book also included a backup story featuring Rocket Raccoon and Groot, reflecting the rising profile of those characters ahead of their appearance in the Guardians of the Galaxy film.
Abnett and Lanning’s cosmic Marvel work from this period, including Annihilation, Nova, and the Guardians of the Galaxy, has been highly regarded by comics readers and directly shaped the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s handling of cosmic characters.
