Annie’s People is a six-book Amish fiction series by Beverly Lewis, published between 2005 and 2008. The series begins with The Preacher’s Daughter and follows Annie through The Englisher, The Brethren, The Parting, The Forbidden, and The Longing. Annie’s story centers on the pressures of growing up as the daughter of an Amish preacher while questioning some of the rules she has been raised to follow.
The series covers familiar Beverly Lewis territory – a young Amish woman caught between duty to her community and her own desires – but Annie’s specific circumstances and personality give the story its own identity. Lewis writes the push and pull of Amish life with sympathy for both the tradition and the individuals who struggle within it.
