These are Andrew van Aardvark’s standalone science fiction novels, published between 2017 and 2020. His debut, Terra’s Evil Children (2017), was followed by Peddler to the Stars (2018), Pirate Stars (2020), and Moving Target (2020). Each book is set in its own corner of space and does not require reading the others.
The titles give a sense of the recurring themes in van Aardvark’s work: space commerce, piracy, and survival on the frontier. Peddler to the Stars and Pirate Stars both deal with characters making their living among the stars, while Moving Target takes a more thriller-oriented approach. Terra’s Evil Children, his first published book, has a darker premise centered on Earth’s legacy in the wider galaxy.
These standalones are a good way to sample van Aardvark’s writing before committing to his longer Katie Kincaid or Captain Jack Black series. Each book runs at a quick pace and can be read in a sitting or two.
