Andre Alexis has published three short story collections across a career spanning more than thirty years. His debut, Despair and Other Stories of Ottawa (1994), drew on the settings and folklore of both Trinidad and Canada to create stories that mixed the ordinary with the unsettling. The collection was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Prize in the Canada and Caribbean region.
The Night Piece followed in 1999, and Other Worlds: Stories (2025) arrived more than two decades later. These collections sit alongside Alexis’s novels and novellas, and they reflect his sustained interest in short-form fiction even as his reputation grew through longer works like the Quincunx Cycle.
