The Aurora Rhapsody short story companions were published alongside the main novel sequence, with Restless (2015) appearing alongside the Aurora Rising trilogy and subsequent entries following the main books through the Resonant period. They were originally available for free on Jennsen’s website and later collected in print.
Fractals (2019), Chrysalis (2021), Starlight Express (2022), and Extinguishing the Stars (2024) extend the short fiction into the later phases of the Amaranthe universe, filling in character moments around the Riven Worlds period and beyond. Together the nine pieces give readers who want the full universe experience additional time with characters and settings that the novel sequence necessarily moves past quickly.
The short fiction rewards readers who have fallen into the universe and want more of it; for readers focused on the main plot, the novels provide a complete experience without them.
