Amanda Scott’s standalone novels span from 1981 to 1995 and make up the largest single group in her bibliography. The Fugitive Heiress (1981) was her debut, and she followed it with a rapid string of Regency romances throughout the 1980s: The Kidnapped Bride (1983), An Affair Of Honor (1984), Lady Hawk’s Folly (1985), Lady Escapade (1986), and Lord Greyfalcon’s Reward (1988) are just a few of the titles from this productive period. The standalones are classic Regency fare, with spirited heroines who refuse to follow convention and heroes who must earn their respect. Amanda Scott had a gift for titles that promised fun, from The Battling Bluestocking (1985) to The Madcap Marchioness (1989) to The Fickle Fortune Hunter (1993). Several of these novels involve inheritance plots, mistaken identities, or heroines who find themselves in situations that proper society would not approve of. The collection tapers off in the mid-1990s, around the time Scott began her transition to Scottish Highland romance with the Highland series and the Dangerous books.
