The Allen Lane History collection is a group of academic and popular history titles published under Penguin’s Allen Lane imprint between 1985 and 2007. Allen Lane, the hardcover arm of Penguin Books, has long been one of the leading publishers of serious non-fiction in the UK. The books in this collection are by various authors and cover a wide range of historical subjects, from Russia’s 20th-century wars to the Italian Renaissance, from Easter 1916 in Ireland to the Peninsular War.
This is a publisher imprint collection rather than a series by a single author. The 51 titles include works by well-known historians and writers on topics spanning European, Asian, and world history. Niall Ferguson edited the series and contributed to it, but the individual books are written by many different scholars. Readers interested in Ferguson’s own work should see his History, Empire, Government, and Rothschild pages for titles he authored directly.
