The Aliens book series is a multi-author franchise expanding the world of the Alien films. Running since the late 1980s, the series includes novels by many different authors. Scott Sigler contributed Alien: Phalanx (2020), which drops Xenomorphs onto a world with medieval-level technology.
Alien: Phalanx stands out from most franchise entries because of its setting. Instead of space stations and colonial marines, the story takes place on a planet where the human inhabitants have only medieval weapons and armor to fight the Xenomorphs. The premise forces a very different kind of survival story, with shield walls and spears replacing pulse rifles.
Sigler’s background in science fiction horror made him a natural fit for the franchise. He had already written the Infected trilogy and other creature-focused novels before taking on the Aliens universe. Phalanx can be read without any knowledge of the other Aliens novels, though fans of the films will recognize the creatures and their biology.
