Alastair Reynolds’s standalone novels showcase the range of his imagination. Century Rain (2004) mixes alternate history with far-future SF. Pushing Ice (2005) starts with a crew pursuing a departing moon of Saturn and spirals into something much larger. House of Suns (2008) follows clones who have been exploring the galaxy for six million years. Terminal World (2010) is set on a single massive structure with zones governed by different technological rules.
More recent standalones include Permafrost (2019), a time-travel novella, and Eversion (2022), which plays with genre expectations in a story about repeated attempts to explore a mysterious location. Halcyon Years (2026) is his newest release.
