The Adventures of Wishbone series retells classic literature through the eyes of Wishbone, the book-loving Jack Russell Terrier from the PBS television show. Brad Strickland wrote 22 entries between 1997 and 2000, adapting works by Alexandre Dumas, Daniel Defoe, Homer, Jonathan Swift, Mark Twain, and many others.
The titles play on the original book names with dog-themed puns: Muttketeer! for The Three Musketeers, Robinhound Crusoe for Robinson Crusoe, Homer Sweet Homer for The Odyssey, Gullifur’s Travels for Gulliver’s Travels, and Huckleberry Dog for Huckleberry Finn. The series introduced young readers to classic stories in an accessible, entertaining format.
