The Adventurers’ Club series by Suzanne Enoch is set during the Regency period and centers on members of an exclusive London club for gentlemen who have traveled the world. These are men who have faced jungles, deserts, and foreign courts, but find themselves completely unprepared for the women who catch their attention back in England.
The series opens with The Care and Taming of a Rogue (2009), where a famous explorer returns to London and clashes with a woman who has published scathing reviews of his travel memoirs. A Lady’s Guide to Improper Behavior and Rules of an Engagement followed in 2010, each featuring a different club member. The books can be read as standalones, though there are recurring characters and references throughout.
Enoch uses the adventurers’ club setting to give her heroes more depth than the typical drawing-room Regency lord. These are men with rough edges and real-world experience, which creates entertaining friction when they try to navigate London’s social season.
