Aaron Elkins is best known for his mystery series, but over the years he has also written four standalone novels that sit outside those ongoing storylines. The first, Loot, appeared in 1999, and the most recent, A Long Time Coming, was published nearly two decades later in 2018. In between came Turncoat (2002) and The Worst Thing (2011).
Because these are independent stories, readers can pick them up in any order. The long gaps between publications suggest Elkins wrote them whenever a particular idea grabbed him rather than on any set schedule. For fans who have already gone through his Gideon Oliver or Chris Norgren books, these standalones offer a different angle on his fiction writing.
