The Tiki Goddess Mystery series is set on the North Shore of Kauai, Hawaii. Em Johnson leaves the mainland after her divorce to help her uncle with his struggling bar, the Tiki Goddess. The trouble starts in Mai Tai One On (2011) when a body shows up in the luau pit and the bar’s staff become suspects.
Em teams up with the Hula Maidens, a dance troupe of mostly senior women who perform at the Goddess, to find the real killer. The series mixes murder mysteries with Hawaiian local color and comedy. Landis, who lives on Kauai herself, draws on the island setting throughout.
The series runs to six books, with titles that play on tropical drinks and Hawaiian phrases. Curse of the Lost Tiki (2021) is the most recent entry.
