The Emile Cinq-Mars series is John Farrow’s flagship crime fiction sequence. Beginning with City of Ice in 2000, the books follow Cinq-Mars through the criminal landscape of Montreal and Quebec, from biker gangs and political corruption to isolated island communities and prison investigations.
The series has grown steadily, with 11 novels published through 2025. Three of the books (The Storm Murders, Seven Days Dead, and Perish the Day) also form the Storm Murders Trilogy, a tightly connected subset within the larger series. Farrow’s writing grounds each mystery in a strong sense of place, making Quebec itself a central character.
