Varjak Paw is a Mesopotamian Blue kitten created by British author S.F. Said. He starts out as a sheltered indoor cat living in the Contessa’s house, but when a sinister figure called the Gentleman takes over, Varjak is forced out into the city for the first time. Through dreams, his ancestor Jalal teaches him a martial art called “the Way,” and Varjak grows from a timid kitten into a brave fighter and leader.

In The Outlaw Varjak Paw, he has become the elected leader of a gang of Free Cats, defending them against the brutal Sally Bones and her gang. Varjak is recognizable by his silver-blue fur and amber eyes, which set him apart from the green-eyed cats in his family.
