Savannah Martin grew up in Sweetwater, Tennessee, a proper Southern girl from a good family. She married the right man, wore the right clothes, and did everything her mother expected. Then her husband cheated on her. She divorced him, moved to Nashville, got her real estate license, and started over.
The starting over part is where things get complicated. Savannah’s first open house in A Cutthroat Business ends with a dead body, and from there, murder becomes an occupational hazard. She keeps finding herself at crime scenes, asking questions she probably shouldn’t, and getting involved in investigations that her mother would find deeply inappropriate.
Rafe Collier turns up early in the series. He’s a TBI agent who grew up on the wrong side of Sweetwater — biracial, rough around the edges, and exactly the kind of man Savannah’s family would never approve of. Their relationship starts tense and only gets more complicated. Across 24 books, Jenna Bennett builds their story into something that readers follow as closely as the mystery plots.
Savannah narrates the books in first person with a dry, self-aware voice. She knows she’s nosy. She knows she’s in over her head. She goes ahead anyway.
