Lydia Crow is the protagonist of Sarah Painter’s Crow Investigations series. She runs her own private investigation firm in London and tries to keep her life grounded in the ordinary world. That proves difficult, because Lydia belongs to the Crow family, one of four ancient magical families that have held an uneasy truce in the city for seventy-five years. The other three families are the Silvers, the Foxes, and the Pearls, and each has its own power and territory.
Lydia is stubborn, fiercely independent, and not always comfortable with the abilities she has inherited. As the series progresses, her cases pull her deeper into the politics and dangers of magical London, forcing her to confront what it really means to be a Crow. Her investigations blend classic detective work with supernatural threats, and she often finds herself at the center of conflicts between the families that could break the long-standing truce.
