Kihrin D’Mon grew up in the slums of Quur’s capital city, raised by a musician he believed was his father. He made his living as a street thief and harp player, which was a decent enough life until someone recognized him as the lost heir of House D’Mon, one of the twelve royal families. That recognition set off a chain of events that pulled him into a conflict between gods, demons, and the forces holding the world together.
His real parentage turned out to be more complicated than anyone initially revealed. Kihrin has a talent for magic, a connection to several powerful artifacts, and a history that stretches back through multiple lifetimes thanks to the world’s system of reincarnation. He is not always happy about any of this.
What makes Kihrin work as a character is his voice. He narrates much of the first book with dark humor and self-awareness, even when the situation is grim. He knows he is in over his head. As the series progresses and the stakes grow from personal survival to the fate of the entire world, Kihrin has to grow into a role he never asked for, surrounded by allies whose motives are rarely simple.
