Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is the protagonist and narrator of The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. He is a powerful wizard who lives and works in modern-day Chicago, serving as the city’s only “professional wizard” listed in the Yellow Pages.
Tall, brooding, and frequently battered, Harry operates out of a sub-basement apartment and office. He often finds himself acting as a bridge between the mundane world and the supernatural “Nevernever,” helping the Chicago PD’s Special Investigations unit with cases that defy conventional explanation.
Powers and Abilities
As a wizard, Harry has significant control over elemental forces, particularly fire (Fuego!) and force (Forzare!). He carries a variety of magical tools, including a blasting rod, a staff, a shield bracelet, and a silver pentacle amulet inherited from his mother.
Harry’s power is balanced by his respect for the Laws of Magic and his role as a Warden of the White Council. He is also known for his incredible endurance and his ability to improvise in high-pressure situations, often relying on his wits as much as his magic.
Allies and Enemies
Harry is rarely alone in his struggles. His most consistent allies include Karrin Murphy, a tough-as-nails Chicago police officer; Molly Carpenter, his apprentice; and Bob, a spirit of intellect who provides magical research and advice.
His enemies are numerous and include various Vampire Courts, the Denarians (fallen angels), and various Fae lords and ladies. Harry’s complicated relationship with the supernatural world often puts him in the crosshairs of powerful entities who would see him dead or enslaved.
