Harry Bosch is the protagonist of Michael Connelly’s long-running crime series set in Los Angeles. A homicide detective with the LAPD, Bosch is a Vietnam War veteran who grew up in foster homes and orphanages after his mother was murdered when he was a child. That unsolved murder shaped his entire career and his refusal to let any case go cold.
Bosch operates by a simple code: everybody counts or nobody counts. He has no patience for politics or bureaucracy when they get in the way of solving cases, which puts him in frequent conflict with his superiors. Over the course of 25 novels, he ages in real time, moving from active LAPD duty to retirement to working cold cases as a reserve officer. Bosch also appears in Connelly’s Lincoln Lawyer series, where readers learn he is the half-brother of defense attorney Mickey Haller.
