Arwen Valondale is the protagonist of The Sacred Stones trilogy by Kate Golden. She is a healer living in the world of Evendell who, at the start of A Dawn of Onyx, volunteers herself as a prisoner to the Onyx Kingdom to save her captured brother. In captivity, she meets Kane Ravenwood, the kingdom’s Fae king, and the two develop an enemies-to-lovers relationship that forms the backbone of the trilogy.
Arwen’s arc takes her from a relatively sheltered life as a healer into the center of a war that threatens all of Evendell. Across A Promise of Peridot and A Reign of Rose, she confronts the villain Lazarus, learns more about the Fae prophecy surrounding Kane, and comes into her own as both a healer and a fighter. Her relationship with Kane matures alongside the escalating conflict, and by the final book she is far removed from the captive she was in the first chapter.
