Alex Delaware is the protagonist of Jonathan Kellerman’s mystery series set in Los Angeles. A clinical psychologist specializing in children, Delaware retired from full-time practice after burnout and now consults for the LAPD. His psychological training gives him a different perspective on criminal cases than a traditional detective, and he often spots behavioral patterns that others miss.
Delaware works most frequently with LAPD Homicide Detective Milo Sturgis, his best friend. The two have very different personalities but complement each other well. Delaware approaches cases analytically, while Sturgis handles the procedural side of police work. Their friendship, which has spanned decades across 40 novels, is one of the series’ defining features.
