Will Ferguson is a Canadian writer who works across humor, literary fiction, travel writing, and mystery. He grew up in northern Alberta and spent several years living in Japan, experiences that shaped much of his non-fiction. His early books, including Hokkaido Highway Blues (1998) and Why I Hate Canadians (1999), established him as one of Canada’s funniest writers.
Ferguson’s fiction took a serious turn with 419 (2012), a novel about Nigerian email scams that won the Giller Prize. His most recent project is the Miranda Abbott Mystery series, starting with I Only Read Murder (2023), which follows a former TV detective who gets involved in real murder cases. The series combines his comic instincts with a cozy mystery format. His non-fiction catalog includes thirteen books covering Canadian history, culture, and international travel.
