Wensley Clarkson is a British journalist and prolific true crime author who has published more than 70 non-fiction books since 1991. He began his career as a reporter for newspapers including the Sun and the Daily Mail before turning to book-length investigations of criminal cases. His first book, Dog Eat Dog (1991), set the tone for his career, and he quickly became one of the UK’s most productive writers in the true crime genre.
His output is staggering in both volume and range. In the mid-1990s he wrote celebrity biographies of Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, John Travolta, and Quentin Tarantino, but the bulk of his work focuses on criminal cases. He has profiled serial killers in Doctors of Death and Doctors Who Kill, written about London gang warfare in Gang Wars of London and Gangs of Britain, and covered the drug trade in books like Hash, Cocaine Confidential, and Legal Highs. Several of his books focus on the British criminal diaspora along the Spanish coast, including Costa Del Crime and Gang Wars on the Costa. He also published one novel, One Behind the Ear (2010). His later work has expanded to cover international subjects, including The Crossing (2019) on border crime and Serial Killers of Russia (2021).
