Tiffany McDaniel is an American novelist from Ohio whose books are rooted in the landscape and history of rural Appalachian communities. The Summer That Melted Everything (2016), her debut, tells the story of a boy who arrives in a small town claiming to be the devil, set against the backdrop of a scorching summer in the 1980s.
Betty (2020) drew on McDaniel’s own family history, telling the story of a Cherokee girl growing up in 1960s Ohio. It became an international bestseller, particularly in France. On the Savage Side (2023) continued her focus on marginalized women, inspired by the real-life murders of women in Chillicothe, Ohio. Her 2024 book A Sky Full of Dragons begins The Wand Keepers series, marking a shift toward younger readers.
