The Thorn series has been running since 1987, following a reluctant hero who lives off the grid in the Florida Keys. Thorn ties fishing flies, avoids civilization, and somehow keeps getting dragged into dangerous situations involving smugglers, killers, and corrupt officials. The series blends crime fiction with a deep sense of place, using South Florida’s landscape as both setting and character.
With 17 novels published over nearly four decades, the series has covered everything from environmental crime (Mean High Tide) to high-tech threats (Blackwater Sound). Each book stands reasonably well on its own, though Thorn’s personal history and relationships grow richer over the course of the series.
