Tedd Arnold grew up in Elmira, New York, and later moved to Gainesville, Florida, where he still lives today. He earned a BFA from the University of Florida and worked as a commercial illustrator before his wife, a former kindergarten teacher, encouraged him to try writing children’s books. His first book, No Jumping on the Bed!, was inspired by catching his own son bouncing on the mattress.
Arnold is best known for the Fly Guy series, which began with Hi! Fly Guy in 2005. The books follow Buzz, a boy who adopts a fly as a pet, and their goofy adventures together. Hi! Fly Guy earned a Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor, and Arnold has received two more Geisel Honors since then. His other popular series include Huggly, about a friendly green monster who lives under a child’s bed, and Parts, a trilogy about a boy who panics when he thinks his body is falling apart. Arnold also co-created the Noodleheads graphic novel series with storytellers Martha Hamilton and Mitch Weiss.
His books are known for silly humor, exaggerated illustrations, and a knack for turning childhood fears into something funny. Whether it’s monsters under the bed or loose teeth, Arnold finds a way to make kids laugh about the things that worry them.
