Ted Dekker grew up in the jungles of Indonesia, the son of missionaries, and that early exposure to different cultures and belief systems shaped the stories he would later tell. He broke onto the publishing scene in 2000 with Heaven’s Wager, the first book in his Martyr’s Song series, and quickly built a reputation for writing psychological thrillers that weave Christian faith into fast-paced plots. His 2003 novel Thr3e won a Christy Award and was later adapted into a film.

Dekker’s writing spans a wide range of sub-genres within Christian fiction. The Circle series, which begins with Black and follows Thomas Hunter between two realities, is his most recognized work and has spawned multiple spin-off series including the Lost Books, the Paradise novels, and the Beyond the Circle duology. He has also written Robin Hood retellings in the Outlaw Chronicles, co-authored the Books of Mortals trilogy with Tosca Lee, and produced children’s books, graphic novels, and non-fiction.

With over 113 books to his name, Dekker remains one of the most prolific authors in Christian fiction. His stories typically feature ordinary people caught in extreme situations where spiritual stakes run as high as the physical danger.
