Taylor Brown has been writing fiction set in the American South since his debut collection In the Season of Blood and Gold (2014). His first novel, Fallen Land (2016), follows two young lovers fleeing through the burning landscape of the Civil War-era South. The River of Kings (2017) traces Georgia’s Altamaha River across two timelines, and Gods of Howl Mountain (2018) is set in 1950s Appalachia, where a Korean War veteran runs moonshine through the mountains.
His later novels continued to find new corners of Southern history to inhabit. Pride of Eden (2020) takes on the world of exotic animal rescue in the coastal South, while Wingwalkers (2022) follows a pair of WWII-era stunt pilots barnstorming across the region. Rednecks (2024), his most recent novel, is set during the 1921 Battle of Blair Mountain, the largest labor uprising in American history. You can find all of Taylor Brown’s books listed on this page.
