Stuart Neville burst onto the crime fiction scene with The Ghosts of Belfast (published as The Twelve in the UK) in 2009. The novel follows Gerry Fegan, a former IRA hitman haunted by the twelve people he killed during the Troubles, who begins to eliminate those who ordered the deaths. The book won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and was endorsed by John Connolly and James Ellroy, establishing Neville as a major new voice in Irish crime fiction.

His Belfast Novels continue to explore the tangled aftermath of the Troubles through different characters and perspectives. Collusion, Stolen Souls, and The Final Silence each stand alone while sharing the same world. Neville’s writing is characterized by stripped-down prose, moral ambiguity, and a deep understanding of how political violence shapes ordinary lives. The Blood Trilogy explores related themes in a more personal context.

Neville has also contributed to the Akashic Noir anthology series and written standalone thrillers. His work has been compared to the crime fiction of Ken Bruen and Adrian McKinty, and he is considered one of the strongest crime writers to emerge from Northern Ireland. He lives near Belfast and draws directly on the landscape and history of the region for his fiction.
