Steve Coll is an American journalist and non-fiction author whose eight books span nearly four decades of investigative writing. Ghost Wars (2004), his account of the CIA’s operations in Afghanistan from the Soviet invasion to the day before September 11, won the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction.
His other books cover corporate power (Private Empire on ExxonMobil, The Deal of the Century on AT&T), family dynasties (The Bin Ladens), and American foreign policy. Directorate S (2018) continues the Afghanistan story through the post-9/11 era. The Achilles Trap (2024) examines the United States and Saddam Hussein.
