Sophie Ranald grew up in Zimbabwe and South Africa before moving to London in her mid-twenties. She worked as an editor at a customer publishing agency, where she spent years writing fiction about places she had never visited, before turning to novels full-time in 2011. Her debut, It Would Be Wrong to Steal My Sister’s Boyfriend, came out in 2013.
Her books are set in London and follow women in their twenties and thirties dealing with love, work, and friendship. The titles tend to give away the tone: Sorry Not Sorry, He’s Cancelled, Thank You, Next. She published with Bookouture from 2018 to 2023 and then signed with Storm Publishing. Her books have sold close to a million copies and been translated into five languages.
The Girlfriends’ Club is her one named series, running four books from P.S. I Hate You (2022) through The Fall-Out (2024). Each book centers on a different woman in the friend group and can be read on its own, though the dynamics between the friends develop across all four novels.
