Sean Thomas Russell is a Canadian author who has published under variations of his name, including Sean Russell and S. Thomas Russell. He works in two distinct genres: historical fiction set during the Age of Sail and epic fantasy inspired by Asian and European traditions.

His fantasy career began with The Initiate Brother in 1991, a novel influenced by feudal Japanese culture and politics. He went on to write several more fantasy series, including the Moontide and Magic Rise duology, The River Into Darkness, and The Swan’s War trilogy. In 2007, he shifted to historical naval fiction with Under Enemy Colors, the first of the Adventures of Charles Hayden novels, which follow a young officer in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars.
