Sarah Langan writes horror that focuses on communities falling apart. Her debut novel The Keeper (2006) introduced a small town hiding dark secrets, and that interest in how fear and crisis expose the fractures in ordinary places has carried through her career. The Missing continued the Keeper storyline, while her standalone novels have explored haunted buildings, suburban paranoia, and social collapse.

Langan’s short fiction has earned her a strong reputation within the horror community. Her stories appear regularly in major anthologies, including multiple volumes of The Best Horror of the Year and The Year’s Best Dark Fantasy & Horror. This anthology presence, combined with Bram Stoker Award wins, has made her one of the more recognized names in contemporary dark fiction.

Good Neighbors (2021) brought Langan wider attention with its story of a suburban community that turns on itself during a crisis. A Better World (2024) continues her interest in how people behave when their familiar structures start to break down.
