Sarah Bourne was born and raised in England but has also lived in Japan and the United States. She eventually settled in Sydney, Australia, where she works as a counsellor and yoga teacher. She won the 2017 Hunter Writers’ Centre prize for her short story “The Sounds of You,” and her debut novel The Train was published in 2021 by Bloodhound Books.
Her novels share a focus on how people deal with upheaval. The Train follows eight strangers on a commuter train whose lives are changed by a single tragedy. Ella’s War is a historical drama about a World War II nurse who wakes up with amnesia. InVisible examines the judgments people make about one another, while Exile is about characters under pressure. She also volunteers at a hospice, writing biographies for people with life-limiting illnesses.
