Sara Flannery Murphy grew up between Little Rock and the Arkansas Ozarks, and the landscape of her home state runs through her fiction. She holds an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis and a library science degree from the University of British Columbia. She lives in Utah with her husband and two sons.
Her three novels each occupy a different corner of speculative fiction. The Possessions (2017) is a ghost story about a woman who rents her body to the dead using a mysterious drug and gets drawn into a client’s suspicious past. Girl One (2021) follows the first of nine women conceived without male DNA in a 1970s experimental commune, now adults searching for their missing origins. The Wonder State (2023) brings five friends back to their hometown in the Arkansas Ozarks, where they rediscover magical houses with impossible properties. All three books blend literary fiction with the uncanny.
