Samuel Marquis is a Colorado-based author who writes historical fiction, espionage thrillers, and narrative non-fiction. Born and raised in Denver, he earned his B.S. from Denison University and his M.S. in Geology from Southern Methodist University. By day he works as a hydrogeologist in Boulder; by night he writes about American history from the Golden Age of Piracy through World War II. He is the ninth great-grandson of privateer Captain William Kidd, a family connection that led to his non-fiction work Blackbeard: The Birth of America (2018).
His fiction spans several series. The Joe Higheagle Environmental Sleuth series, starting with Blind Thrust (2015), draws on his own career in geology and features a Cheyenne hydrogeologist investigating environmental crimes in Colorado. The Nick Lassiter-Skyler International Espionage series follows a reluctant spy and a lethal Italian assassin through plots involving Russian mobsters, political conspiracies, and buried wartime secrets. His five-book World War II series covers the conflict from the North African desert to Occupied Norway to the liberation of Rome, told through the eyes of real historical figures. His books have been number one Denver Post bestsellers and have received awards from Kirkus Reviews, Foreword Reviews, and the American Book Fest, among others. He lives in Louisville, Colorado with his wife and three children.
