Rudy Ruiz is an American writer, advocate, and social entrepreneur from the US-Mexico border. His fiction draws on his own background and family history to explore Latino culture, immigration, and the border experience. He writes in a style that mixes realism with elements of folklore and magic.
His debut novel, The Resurrection of Fulgencio Ramirez (2020), won two Gold Medals at the International Latino Book Awards and is inspired by his father’s stories of border-town life in the 1950s. Valley of Shadows (2023) is a magical realism novel set in 1880s West Texas that won the Jesse H. Jones Award for Best Work of Fiction from the Texas Institute of Letters. His third novel, The Border Between Us, was published in 2024.
