Roz Watkins studied Engineering and the History and Philosophy of Science at Cambridge before training as a patent lawyer — a background that gives her crime fiction a precision and analytical quality that suits the mystery genre well. She now lives in Cornwall and works as a Royal Literary Fund fellow at the University of Exeter.

Her DI Meg Dalton series is set in Derbyshire’s Peak District, a landscape of limestone gorges, lead mines, and small communities where old superstitions and modern crimes coexist. Meg Dalton is a detective with attitude and enough personal complications to keep the series interesting beyond the individual cases. The series ran to three books between 2018 and 2020 before Watkins moved to a standalone thriller, The Red House, in 2023.
