Rosemary Sullivan is a Canadian writer, biographer, and poet whose career spans nearly fifty years. She began with academic work on the poet Theodore Roethke in 1975 and has since written biographies of Elizabeth Smart, Gwendolyn MacEwen, and Svetlana Alliluyeva (Stalin’s daughter). Her non-fiction ranges from literary biography to cultural history, with books about the Red Shoes, Cuban culture, and the rescue of artists from Nazi-occupied France.
Sullivan has also published poetry collections, edited several anthologies of Canadian women’s writing, and written the controversial The Betrayal of Anne Frank (2022), a cold case investigation into the identity of the person who betrayed the Frank family to the Nazis. She is a professor emerita at the University of Toronto.
