Rosemary Rowe was born in Penzance, Cornwall, during World War II. Under her maiden name Rosemary Rowe, she writes the Libertus Mystery of Roman Britain series, a 20-book sequence featuring a Celtic freedman and mosaic maker who solves crimes in second-century Gloucester. Under her married name Rosemary Aitken, she writes historical sagas and standalone novels set in Cornwall, drawing on the tin-mining communities and coastal landscapes of her home county.
Before becoming a full-time novelist, she worked in education and published Teaching Tenses, an English language teaching textbook. Her writing guides, including Masterclass: Writing Crime Fiction, reflect her practical experience with the mystery genre. The Libertus series, her longest and most recognized body of work, spans from 1999 to 2023.
