Roderic Jeffries, also writing as Roderic Graeme, produced an enormous body of crime and mystery fiction over a career that stretched from 1952 to 2014. His 149 books fall across six named series and dozens of standalones, making him one of the more prolific British mystery writers of the twentieth century.

The longest-running series is Inspector Alvarez, set in Mallorca, which began with Mistakenly in Mallorca in 1974 and continued for nearly forty years across 37 entries. The Blackshirt series, written under the Graeme name, ran from 1952 to 1969 with 19 adventure novels. The C.I.D. Room series adds another 14 police procedurals, and the shorter Brandy and Don Kerry series round out the named work. Beyond the series, Jeffries published over 70 standalone novels covering legal thrillers, police stories, children’s books, and courtroom dramas. Titles like Twice Checked, Evidence of the Accused, and The Burden of Proof give a sense of how deeply rooted his writing was in the world of law and criminal investigation.
