Robin Pilcher is the son of novelist Rosamunde Pilcher and grew up in Dundee, Scotland. Before turning to fiction writing, he worked as a farmer and cameraman. His debut novel, An Ocean Apart (1999), drew on his own experience of living between Scotland and the wider world.
His five standalone novels share a common thread of ordinary people facing life changes. Starting Over (2001) and A Risk Worth Taking (2004) both deal with characters rebuilding their lives after personal setbacks. Starburst (2007) and A Matter of Trust (2010) continue in the same vein, blending family relationships with a sense of place.
Pilcher’s writing tends to be gentle and observational rather than plot-heavy, with a focus on how people adapt when circumstances push them out of their comfort zones.
