Rick Mofina grew up in Belleville, Ontario, and began writing fiction as a child before training as a journalist at Carleton University. His reporting career took him to The Toronto Star and other newsrooms across three decades, during which he interviewed death row inmates, flew with the LAPD over Los Angeles, and patrolled with the RCMP near the Arctic. That direct access to crime, law enforcement, and human extremity gives his fiction a texture that desk research rarely replicates.

His series work spans multiple character-led investigative thrillers: the Tom Reed and Walt Sydowski procedurals set in San Francisco, the Jason Wade newspaper-reporter mysteries, the Jack Gannon international thriller series, and the Kate Page series. His standalone thrillers are equally prolific, with more than a dozen published between 2008 and 2026. Mofina lives in Ottawa and continues to publish at a steady pace, with new standalone titles appearing annually.
