Rick Gualtieri writes horror comedy that puts ordinary, often clueless people up against monsters, myths, and the supernatural. He broke out with the Tome of Bill series, which follows Bill Ryder, a self-described nerd who gets turned into a vampire and finds himself at the bottom of the undead pecking order. The series ran for eleven books and spawned the sequel series Bill of the Dead, along with spin-off adventures and a crossover with the False Icons series.

Outside the Bill Ryder universe, Gualtieri has written the Tales of the Crypto-Hunter series (action-horror featuring cryptid hunts), the High Moon and Hybrid of High Moon series (werewolf-focused supernatural fiction), and the massive Shingles comedy horror series with over sixty entries. His Shingles books are short, raunchy parodies of horror and pop culture tropes, with titles that make them easy to spot on a shelf.

Gualtieri’s writing leans hard into humor without pulling punches on the horror side. His characters tend to be regular people stuck in ridiculous supernatural situations, and his books move fast with plenty of pop culture references and self-aware jokes.
