Ribbons of Steel is the pen name under which Judith Pella and Tracie Peterson published two connected historical fiction series set during America’s railroad expansion. The original Ribbons of Steel trilogy — Distant Dreams, A Hope Beyond, and A Promise for Tomorrow — appeared between 1997 and 1998, followed by the Ribbons West trilogy from 1999 to 2000.
Both series are set against the backdrop of nineteenth-century America and the drive to build the transcontinental railroad. The books combine family drama with the historical sweep of westward expansion, told from a Christian fiction perspective. Together the six novels cover a pivotal period in American history through the lives of interconnected characters.
