The Polesotechnic League is a future history setting created by science fiction author Poul Anderson. The books are set in a period when human civilization has expanded to the stars and formed a loose mercantile federation called the Polesotechnic League. Anderson published seven books in this setting between 1958 and 1978, making it one of his longest-running fictional universes.
Anderson was a Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author whose career spanned five decades. The Polesotechnic League stories are part of his broader Technic History, which traces human civilization from its first steps into space through the rise and fall of interstellar empires. The merchant prince Nicholas van Rijn and trader David Falkayn are the central characters in most of these books, and their adventures blend hard science fiction with economic and political themes.
